A surprisingly clear blue pond. Kaminoko pond draws its water the crystal clear Lake Mashu via an underground spring. From spring to autumn, when the sunlight is intense, it shines a cobalt blue, and in winter it becomes deep indigo blue! Submerged trees in the pond remain intact without rotting due to the water's year-round eight degree Celsius temperature. Oshorokoma (dolly varden trout) can be found swimming in the pond.
Kiyoizumi, Kiyosato-cho, Shari, Hokkaido
We suggest going there in the morning, because later it could get crowded. Remember to bring bug repellent. Be careful - Snow removal work is not done. The snow may remain on the ground until May.
From Kiyosato-cho, take the Hokkaido Prefectural Road Route 115 (“Mashuko-Shari Route" ). Proceed to Nakashibetsu approx. 25 km and then turn right onto Hatoi forest road. The pond is located about 2 km from there. (You can find the sign "Kaminoko pond" at the entrance to the forest road.)
