Jun.

Two rocks, a small one and a big one, in the middle of the sea, connected by a shimenawa (rope used for ritual purification in the Shinto religion), and on the larger of the two rocks is located a small shrine. There is a legend that says, once upon a time the “god” of textile was attacked by mountain bandits. He got scared and threw his textiles into the sea, suddenly they turned into two beautiful rocks. This legend refers us to the Edo period when the Noto peninsula was one of the famous places to produce the highest-quality fabrics in all of Japan. The most breathtaking view of Hatago Iwa is during the sunset when the sun goes directly through the hole in the rock.
