Taushubetsu bridge
- タウシュベツ橋梁
- Other Areas of Hokkaido
Arched bridge made of concrete over Lake Nukabira, in Kamishihoro Town (Hokkaido.) From June onwards as water levels at the lake rise, the bridge begins to sink below the waters, submerging completely into the lake sometime between August and October depending on how much rain fell that year. It is also referred to as “the phantom bridge” because it begins to resurface again in January on the frozen surface of the lake as the volume of the water decreases.

Point
The access to the forest path that leads to the bridge is limited to the authorized vehicles, so we recommend enjoying the view from the Taushubetsu Observatory Deck, or going on a paid tour. The visits are different depending on whether you go in summer or winter. Depending on the time of the year, you may not be able to see the bridge, as it may be submerged under the water.
