The cape is protruding from the northwestern side of the Shakotan peninsula into the Sea of Japan. This is the only cape in Hokkaido designated as a Marine Park. In the past, it was considered to be the most dangerous spot in the Sea of Japan and women were forbidden to approach it. From the tip of the cape, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the sea called ”Shakotan Blue.” The hill located at the right end of the promenade which extends from the parking lot offers a view of Mizunashi no Tateiwa rock on the right, and of Cape Kamui with its rugged terrain on the left.
