This nunnery temple is featured in “Heike Monogatari”, a famous Japanese historical text. The story tells of a Shirabyoshi dancer who was left behind in the capital by her military lord lover. She lived out her days in a thatched hut on the temple grounds, surrounded by the vibrant green forest of bamboo and maple trees.

    A famous spot for seeing bamboo forests and fall foliage. The circular “Yoshino-mado” window on the temple grounds is also known as “the rainbow window” because depending on how light enters it, it sometimes appears to be rainbow colored.
