Kamigamo-jinja Shrine
- 上賀茂神社
- Kyoto
Kamigamo-jinja Shrine is formally known as “Kamo-wakaikazuchi-jinja Shrine”. Along with Shimokamo-jinja Shrine, it enshrines the tutelary deity of the Kamo family (a priest family during the Asuka and Heian periods). People pray at the shrine for Yakuyoke (exorcism and purification for specific ages), Happoyoke (exorcism and purification in eight directions), a god of electric industry and a god of victory. Its Honden (Main Hall) and Gonden (Temporary Hall) are listed as national treasures, and the shrine itself is a World Cultural Heritage site.
