The three-story pagoda located in the Hokki-ji Temple grounds was built in 706 AD, and is the oldest of its kind in Japan. The pagoda is listed as a World Cultural Heritage site. When viewing the pagoda from afar, as it stands amid rice and cosmos fields surrounding Hokki-ji Temple, one can truly imagine ancient Japan.

The Mokuzo-Juichimen-Kannon-Bosatsu-Ryuzo (wooden statue of a standing 11-faced goddess) and Dozo-Bosatsu-Ryuzo (bronze statue of a standing goddess) are enshrined in Hokki-ji Temple. Both of them are listed as Important Cultural Properties.
About 40 minutes from JR Horyuji Station.
Take a bus from JR Nara Station or Oji Station, and get off at Hokkiji-guchi. It is a 15-minute walk from there.
