The park was built on the ruins of Zuiho-ji Temple, and it is known as one of the best places to view the autumn leaves in Hyogo Prefecture. Hideyoshi Toyotomi (a famous feudal lord known as one of the great unifiers of Japan) praised it as a "garden I never get tired of looking at”. As a result, the park is also known as Higurashi-no-Niwa (literally, a "garden enjoyable from morning till night"). The park is also famous for splendid cherry blossoms in spring, and was chosen as one of Kobe's 50 Best Flower Spots.
Arima-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe, Hyogo
Apr., May, Jun., Jul., Aug., Sep., Oct., Nov.
The stone Go (a strategy game) board, on which it is said Hideyoshi Toyotomi himself played, is interesting to see. Also, the Taiko-taki (Drum Waterfall) located deep in the park is pretty impressive.
Take the Kobe Electric Railway Arima line from Arimaguchi Station and get off at Arima-onsen Station. The park is a 15-minute walk from the station.
