The oldest shrine in the Tokai region, this is the head shrine of all Sengen shrines, for which about 1,300 sanctuaries exist. It was built as a place to pray to and ease the soul of Mt. Fuji, due to its many eruptions. It offers a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji across its vermilion lacquered ”Otorii” (large gateway to a Shinto shrine.)
