Saimyo-ji Temple

Saimyo-ji Temple is a small temple surrounded by mountains, three of which - Makino,Takao, and Togano - are especially impressive. The three are collectively known as "Mio". The mountains are well known as a fall foliage destination, and in November the entire temple precinct is enveloped with bright red maple leaves.

Many Buddhist statues are enshrined in the temple, and the wooden statue of Shaka Nyorai is a National Important Cultural Property.

Fifty minutes by a JR Bus from JR Kyoto Station. Get off at the Makino bus stop, then the temple is a 5-minute walk from there.
