Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley)
Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley) is a volcanic caldera created by the eruption of Mt. Hiyoriyama, and is the largest hot spring source in Noboribetu Onsen. Jigokudani is a suitable name for a place where scaldingly hot water and powerful jets of steam burst from uncountable hot spring vents and holes, all with a strong, rotten egg-like sulfur smell.
Noboribetsu-onsen-cho, Noboribetu, Hokkaido
※The lights are on at the Jigokudani Observatory until 23:00.
The valley is 450m in diameter and contains 15 geysers and hot spring of various sizes. More than 3,000 liters of hot spring water flow through them every minute.
From JR Noboribetsu Station on Muroran Main Line, it is a 15-minute ride on a Donan Bus. After you disembark at Noboribetsu Onsen, it is a 10-minute walk to Jigokudani.
