The Chokai Blue Line is a sightseeing road that runs between Yamagata and Akita Prefectures. Mt. Chokai is enveloped with vibrant red and yellow deciduous trees in autumn. And from the observatory located 1,000m above sea level, depending on the time of day you can enjoy a splendid view of the small islands scattered across the Sea of Japan or an equally impressive sunset.

Chokai Blue Line is closed for winter from early November to late April. October is the best time for the fall foliage.

Nearest Station/IC Access
Take the Uetsu Main Line from JR Sakata Station, and get off at Fukura Station. It is a 7-minute taxi ride from there.
A 15-minute drive from Yamagata Expressway Sakata-Minato Interchange via National Route 7 towards Akita.
