Daisetsu Highlands Hot Springs Area
Said to be the first area of Japan for leaves to change in autumn, the highlands of Daisestsuzan National Park are dotted with over 30 ponds of varying size. Requiring about four hours, if you start a round-course walk from Daisetsu Highlands Hot Spring, you will be able to enjoy forests dyed in gorgeous colors and beautiful fall leaves reflected in tranquil ponds.

Entry permitted from 7:00 to 13:00, June to early October
There are brown bears living in the area, so before entering the mountain area be sure to submit notification to the bear information center located beside the hot spring.
It is about 40 minutes from the Sounkyo stop on Dohoku Bus's Kamikawa-Sounkyo Line.
Exit at Kamikawa Sounkyo IC on the Aibetsu-kamikawa section of the Asahikawa-Monbetsu Expressway. From there, it is about 90 minutes along Prefectural Road 849, National Highway 39, and National Highway 273.
