Straddling the border between Kyoto and Shiga Prefectures, this mountain has been treated as a holy location since antiquity, and its graceful outline has earned it the name, “Miyako-fuji (Fuji of the Old Capital)”. The panoramic view from this area is incredible: look to the east, and you can see the largest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa; look to the west, and the streets of old Kyoto spread out before you. In autumn, from the observation deck at Yumemigaoka along the Driveway you’ll be able to enjoy the gorgeous views woven together by fall foliage and Lake Biwa.

Come winter, you can see Mount Hiei dusted in pure white snow. We recommend an outing in the crisp, refreshing air to visit Enryakuji Temple, near the mountain’s summit.
