Gujo Hachiman is a historic castle town with many waterways which are still used today by local residents in their everyday life. Their spring water, Sogisui, was the first to be listed in Japan's Top 100 Waters. The town's unique waterway system, mizubane (drinking fountain), can be found in many places around town, and visitors walking around town can drink from them to quench their thirst.

Gujo Hachiman is the center of food replicas and most food replicas in Japan are made here. Visitors can try their hands at making food replicas at the tourist center, Sample Kobo.
