Gujo Hachiman is a historic castle town with many waterways which are still used today by local residents in their everyday life. Their spring water, Sogisui, was the first to be listed in Japan's Top 100 Waters. The town's unique waterway system, mizubane (drinking fountain), can be found in many places around town, and visitors walking around town can drink from them to quench their thirst.
