Sumida Park stretches along both sides of Sumida River between the Azumabashi and Sakurabashi bridges. It was built on the remains of the Mito-Tokugawa family's main residence, and some garden remains have been incorporated into the park. Sumida Park is listed in Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. There are around 700 cherry trees planted along the shores of the Sumida River over a stretch of 1km, which were said to be planted under the orders of the 8th Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune. In summer, it holds the Sumida River Firework event and the number of people who visit is comparable to the size of the crowd during the cherry blossom festival.
