Lake Nakatsuna is the smallest lake of Nishina Three Lakes. Here, you can find the crucian carp, the "mabuna" goldfish, the Japanese dace, as well as unusual creatures such as the spongilla lacustris. Every year on the 3rd Sunday of June, it holds the Lake Nakatsuna Crucian Carp Fishing Competition, which attracts fishing lovers from all over Japan. It is also a popular place to fish for smelt in winter. There are many ryokans nearby, and the slopes of Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Ski Resort are right before your eyes. In early May, many photographers gather to take picture of the Sargent cherry's deep pink blossom, reflected in the lake.
