Hokanji Temple (Yasaka Pagoda)

Hokanji temple was built in the Asuka period (538 - 710). The five-story pagoda, known as Yasaka Pagoda, is 46-meter tall and a distinct landmark in Higashiyama. The pagoda, along with the temple treasure, Yasakato-ezu, has been designated as a Important Cultural Property by the country. Yakushi Hall and Taishi Hall have been declared Tangible Cultural Property by the city.
