Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka (Slopes at Kiyomizu-dera)
Mar. Night
The gently sloping lanes with stone pavement are lined with many traditional souvenir shops and serve as the main tourist street of Higashiyama in Kyoto. Sannen-zaka has a long history as the oldest approach to Kiyomizu-dera and is formally known as Sannei-zaka. Ninen-zaka was opened in the early Taisho period (1912 – 1926) and formally named Ninei-zaka.
