Lake Shizenko is a natural lake that formed when a landslide caused by a large earthquake in 1984 blocked off part of Otakigawa River. Although the area is not fully blocked off, it was named a lake because there is barely any water flowing through the blockage. The valley that was blocked off is fully submerged, and has a water depth of 20 meters at its deepest. There is something magical about the tall trees "growing" out of the water in the lake.

Point
As the lake is surrounded by cliffs, it is impossible to reach the lake on foot. A great way to get there is via a kayak.
