Nakamachi Komise Street
A shopping street with wooden buildings dating back to the Edo period. The buildings here are preserved in its original state, a feat that is previously unheard of in Japan. Traces of old Japan can be found in the streets lined with sake breweries and the Takahashi Family Residence (Japan's Important Cultural Property) among others. The shopping street has protected people over many years from the rain, strong sunlight in summer and snow storms in winter. In 2004, Kuroshi City enacted a regulation to preserve the view of historical landscape. In 2005, the street was designated as Important Group of Traditional Buildings by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and works are being carried out to preserve and repair the street.
