Izushi in Toyooka City
Izushi Town is a historical town that has been featured in old Japanese books published in the 8th century, Kojiki and Nihongi. The former Izushi castle town district was designated Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the country. There are several places of interest here, among which are Sukyoji temple, the former residence of Kido Takayoshi, the former residence of high-ranking samurai officials in the Edo period, as well as the ruins of Izushi Castle which looks amazing against the 37 vermilion lacquered torii gate in the castle ground.
