The historical church was founded by English missionary Father Ward in 1935, and designed by Czech architect Antonin Raymond who came to Japan with Frank Lloyd Wright to design the former Imperial Hotel. The design features European-style boarding, triangle-shaped roof and exposed concrete. It is a blend of simplicity and elegance and is one of the modern architectures Raymond had left behind in Japan. Masses are held every day, and the church is also open to public when there is no event. Many couples attending the masses also dream of holding their own ceremony.
