The garden was opened in 1906 by successful silk trader Hara Sankei in a district of Yokohama City that overlooks Tokyo Bay. In the garden are 17 historical buildings relocated from places such as Kyoto and Kamakura, all of which have been designated as important cultural properties by the country, or tangible cultural properties by the city. There are also around 300 cherry trees which are in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature. When the cherry trees are in full bloom, the three-story pagoda among others will be lighted up, turning the garden into a completely different place at night.
