Bashamichi Shopping Avenue
May
Bashamichi (horse carriage road) is located near Sakuragi-cho in Kannai and got its name when the port of Yokohama opened in 1859. Bashamichi is initially used to refer to the road linking Yokohama Port to the gateway that was built when the port opened, but later expanded to include the surrounding areas. Some of its former facade have been preserved in this street. Other than the brick-tiled roads and gas lights, you can also find several modern Western-style buildings, such as Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History and the former Fuji Bank Yokohama Branch in Bashamichi.
