Built in the 1820's, "Ochaya Shima" (Shima Tea Room) is in the east of Kanazawa, and has been designated as a National Important Cultural Asset. The interior halls, decorated with red gold, were built for entertainment. The water and stone rooms from the early times of the chaya still remain. Further inside, there is an actual tea room where guests can enjoy traditional green tea and sweets.
