The remainder of the six forts (daiba) that were urgently constructed by the Japanese shogunate as a way of protecting the country during Commodore Perry's visit with American fleets and the Opening of Japan. The site was never used as a fort during battle, but one of those two sites that remained in good condition throughout the years became Daiba Park.
