The Old Saga Imperial Palace Daikakuji Temple
- 旧嵯峨御所 大覚寺門跡
- Kyoto
Established in 876, the Emperor and the Royal Family resided in the monastery temple, which originally housed the Emperor's villa, known as the "Saga Imperial Palace." Inside the temple are many important cultural artifacts such as wall paintings, as well as two designated National Treasures: Emperor Gouda's "Will with Handprints," and "Biography of the Priest Kukai." The temple grounds boasts of the scenic Osawa Pond and the traces of the Nakoso waterfall in the gardens. This area is often used in shooting historical dramas.
