This shopping district spans a total length of 390 meters of stalls selling Kyoto food products, and also long-established restaurants and shops. Known as "Kyoto's Kitchen," this place is always crowded with visitors from all over Japan and abroad, as it is a famous sightseeing spot. Located in an area where the life centered around fish and seafood for 400 years, it is as lively in the past as it is now. It has been increasing its value as a traditional shopping area full of history and tradition by being the first shopping district to acquire a trademark registration in the prefecture, thereby attracting the establishment of similar-styled shops, commodity management, arcade, and cobblestoning.
