Mt. Aso encompasses one of the world's largest calderas, stretching 18 kilometers from east to west, 25 kilometers from north to south, and 100 kilometers in circumference. Its only active volcanic peak, Nakadake, is still smoking. From the last stop of the bus line, you can ride the Mount Aso Ropeway, a four-minute, 108 meter climb. It is world's first ropeway running close to the active volcanic crater and you can enjoy the close-up view of an active volcano from the car.

Point
During late September to early November you can enjoy the autumn views such as Japanese pampas grass field and beautiful autumn leaves. Nearby the volcanic craters are camping sites , horse riding places and museums. You can also relax at hot spa resort around the volcano.
Also at the moment as the volcano is active, it is prohibited to go near the crater. Enjoy the beauty of the fields and the dynamic smoke of the volcanos that Mother Nature enfolds from a safe place.
