Mount Karasawadake is one of the most popular glacial sphere valleys in Japan. Its peak is part of what is known as the Hotaka Mountains. In the summer, alpine plants are abundant, while in autumn the contrast of colors in the trees is particular beautiful, for in this area, a scenery called the "Three stages of autumn leaves" is well-known. On the other hand, Takidani, a rocky stone formation that spreads from the north of Mount Hotakadake to Karasawadake is so high up and dangerous that it is dubbed to be "a place where no birds dare tread." Another famous spot is the sight of a snowy river in the summer, forming a u-shape in between the inside and front of Hotakadake.
