This park was built around the ruins of Yamagata Castle, which was built by Kaneyori Shiba, the lord of that particular area. The outer moat and the stone wall of the Ninomaru base moat still remain; these are designated historical sites in Japan. Today, the Ninomaru Higashi-Otemon Gate has been reconstructed in wood, and many visitors come to see it. There are also museums and other historically important places that can be visited in this area. The park spans 500 meters and is also a famous spot for cherry blossoms.
