This is a shrine that has been around for over 2,000 years at the foot of Mount Togakushi. It consists of five shrines: the Oku-sha (inner shrine), Chu-sha (middle shrine), Hoko-sha, Kuzuryu-sha, and Hinomiko-sha. In the days of the old gods, it was said that the "Ama no Iwato" (Rock door of heaven) came flying down to what is now Mount Togakushi, and with it as the center, the shrine venerating the gods was opened. This became what is now Togakushi Shrine.
