Long ago, the park was also called Joyama Park (Castle Mountain Park) after Ujima Castle, which used to be in this area. Inside the park is a monument of the commemoration of Japan's opening, and of Renjo Shimooka. In the observation deck in front of the monument of Japan's opening, a view of Shimoda city can be seen. A "Hydrangea Festival" is held here all throughout the month of June, and visitors will be overwhelmed by the sight of almost 3 million hydrangea blossoms.
