The temple's official name is Yatasan Kongosenji Temple, and it is located in the middle of Mount Yata in Yata Hills. The temple was built by a Buddha priest (Chitsu Sojo) under the orders of Emperor Tenmu. There are many statues in the temple which are considered as cultural assets, such as the wooden Jizo Bodhisattva Statue, the Amida Buddha, and two Tenno statues in the main hall. The temple is also known as "Hydrangea Temple" for the 10,000 hydrangeas within the precints. Near the great gate of the temple, research on flower arrangement (“Kado”) is also being held.
