Kehi Jingu Shrine

The locals fondly call this Shrine "Kei-san." The guardian protector of the Hokuriku region, it was founded in 702 and has more than 1,300 years of history. The torii gate extends 11 meters and is one of the 3 biggest wooden torii gates in Japan, alongside Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara and Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima. It is an important cultural asset in Japan. This is one of the areas the poet Matsuo Basho visited during his "Narrow Road to the Interior" journey (Oku no Hosomichi); his statue can be seen within the shrine. Also found in the precints of the shrine is the "Chomeisui" (water of long life) Springs, said to cure diseases and bring long, healthy life.
