Yusumizugaura Terrace Field
These fields, which have been around for over 400 years, were made by stacking stone walls upon steep slopes. In Mizugaura, they are called "danbatake" (stepped fields) and are used in cultivating potatoes. This landscape, together with the backdrop of the Uwa Sea coastline, produces a unique scenery that is magnificent to behold, and represents the mixture of agriculture and fishing that is the lifetyle of the villagers here. It has been designated as one of the "Top 100 beautiful landscape of Japanese farm villages," "Uwajima's 24 Sceneries," "Shikoku's 88 places near the sea," and "National Important Cultural Landscapes." Also, the "Dandan Tea Shop” at the foot of the water offers meals using local fresh fish and vegetables. In April every year, the "Dandan Festival" is held.
