Oshima Channel is a straight sandwiched between Amami Oshima Island and Kakeromajima Island. It is a beautiful rias coast, upon a sea where 200 species of corals inhabit. Because of its majesty, the entire Amami District was designation as a National Park in 1974. The sea cove around here is quiet and calm and was a perfect spot for cultivating pearl oysters and fishes during the Meiji Era, but it was damaged by World War II. In the present, this area has turned into a "Mecca of Marine Sports," famous among tourists because it offers diving, sea kayaking, swimming, and other water activities.
