This temple was built in 1618 by the head of the Oka Clan, Nakagawa Ko, as a place to pray. On the right side of the pathway towards the temple, there are 16 stone figures resting on top of natural rocks, and it was said that these are in reference to the 16 Buddhist disciples who swore to protect the beliefs of Buddhism. There is a distinct difference in each of the stone figures. In November, during the "Taketa Bamboo Lighting Festival," or "Chikuraku" (Fun with Bamboo), the 16 figures together with the lights creates a unique landscape like that in an ink painting.
