Night

Zenringai is a unique district in Japan that is packed with only Soto Zen Buddhist Temples. On the innermost part of the approaching path with old cedars is Choshoji Temple. It was founded in 1528 in Tanesato (present town of Ajigasawa), then moved to its present location in 1610 together with Hirosaki Castle foundation. The movement of Choshoji became the catalyst for the movement of the other Zen temples to this area, in order to unify religious culture in the territory. These historic and quiet streets are designated as National Historic Sites.
