Yokokan Garden once served as a residence of the Matsudaira Family, the former lords of the Fukui Domain. In the Edo period, the garden was also once called "Oizumi Yashiki" (Fountain Mansion). It is ranked No.3 in the "Journal of Japanese Gardening," having received great praise from US critics.
