Shakotan Peninsula
- 積丹半島
- Other Areas of Hokkaido
A peninsula facing the Sea of Japan on the west side of Hokkaido. The coast of Shakotan stretches for approximately 42 kilometers. It has an amazing view of ”Kamui Cape” with its unique color ”Shakotan blue”. The name "Kamui" means "God" in the language of the Ainu peoples historically living in the northern territories.
Until 1855, women were not allowed to come to this place, but now regardless of gender, you can freely enjoy sightseeing.
The distance from the free parking lot to the tip of the cape is about 800 meters and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on the weather.
The local fisheries are prosperous, and sea urchin is the specialty product of Shakotan.
