This garden began as a privately-run flower garden, centering on the growing of flowers arranged in an elegant way for flower-viewing. The "hagi" or Japanese bush clover shaped into a tunnel along the bamboo fences has become widely-known in Hyakkaen. The pond is surrounded by different varieties of irises, and many other flowers bloom brightly as well.
