Mt. Nakano Momiji
This mountain has been a popular fall destination ever since Lord Hirosaki ordered the plantation of over 100 types of maple trees from Kyoto in 1802. The legendary illumination event, “Fantasy of Light”, can be enjoyed during fall when the entire mountain is painted beautiful shades of red. Both Nakano Shrine and Fudokan Castle Ruins can be found in the forest, as can 200-year-old maple trees and 700-year-old cedar trees. It has been designated a National Treasure of the city.
