Nihon Odori Street
Almost completed in 1870, Nihon Odori Street was Japans very first western-style street, being named in 1875. The design of the street is also applauded as being a product of R. H. Brunton, the “Father of the Japanese Lighthouse”. Historical buildings such as the Kanagawa Prefectural Government Office, the Yokohama Archives of History, the Yokohama Post Office, the former Chamber of Commerce and Industry Promotional Hall, the Old Toll Telephone Office, the Yokohama District Court, the Mitsui Bussan Yokohama Branch, and finally the former Kanto Finance Bureau all reside along this very street. It has been a bustling main street in Yokohama ever since the Meiji era (1868-1912), with various events being held here through the year.
