Located to the right of the infamous Shomyo Falls, Hannoki Falls is a waterfall which can only be seen during April – July, when the excess water from thawing snow or heavy rainfall occurs. It is often called the “Phantom Waterfall” due to the fact that it can only be seen during certain periods. The fall of the waterfall is actually higher than that of Shomyo Falls, with a difference of 500 meters. If timed right, visitors can therefore see three waterfalls in one visit – Shomyo Falls, Hannoki Falls and Somen Falls. To get there, take the “Shomyo Falls Tansho Bus” from Tateyama Station to the very last stop. A further 30-minute walk is then required to reach the basin of the waterfall. Visitors who do take the bus can also enjoy the fantastic opportunity to see “Takimidai Observatory” from afar.
