Eigenji Temple was built by the Omi guardian of the time, Rokkaku Ujiyori Sasaki in 1361 as a memorial for the high priest, Jakushitsu Genko. The Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) is said to perform miracles at tis temple in terms of easy childbirth and conception. It is for this reason that not only locals, but also people from far and wide, come to worship at this particular shrine. The material of the thatched roof of Ohojo in the main hall is made from wild straw collected from the banks of Lake Biwa. The whole mountain is illuminated during November to fully show off the beauty of the autumnal colors.
