Juren and Anrakuji Temple was opened by Shishigatani Soan, the disciple of Honen. The temple is also known as “Suzumushi Temple” due to its connection to the “Jogen no Honan” (religious persecution event). In this event, a female officer of Emperor Gotoba became a monk after becoming inspired by the preaching method of two monks. This offended the Emperor, who swiftly ordered the monks to death. Juren and Anrakuji Temple was reconstructed in the memory of the two monks who lost their lives. Visitors can not only enjoy the beautiful cherry blossom trees and azalea flowers, but also the various special events also held regularly.
