It is believed that Masamune Hojo erected this temple – one of the five great Rinzai Sect temples of Kamakura – in 1281 with his wife and child. Inside stands “Kanronoi Well”, a famous well counted as one of the “Kamakura-jussei” (10 wells of Kamakura). The nationally designated historical site is not only situated along the road towards Mt. Genji from Kita-Kamakura, but is also filled with beautiful, lush greenery to cleanse the soul and mind. Visitors in spring can also enjoy the plum, peach and cherry blossoms, while in summer water plants such as irises and lotuses are abundant. A variety of flowers bloom here throughout the year, thus making it a haven for flower lovers.
