Nihonji Temple, Nokogiriyama kogiriyama
This is the oldest Japanese temple in the Kanto region, established approximately 1,300 years ago for Gyoki Botsatsu. The symbol of the temple has to be the carving of Buddha’s face into the rock – the highest rock carving of Buddha in Japan. Mt. Nokogiri remains famous to this very day due to the vast number of poems written about it – such as the more modern “Bokusetsuroku”, by Soseki Natsume, among other older pieces.
Nokogiriyama, Kyonan Town, Awa Province, Chiba Prefecture, 299-1901
